Military Photos
We stand proud of our US Armed Forces, and are honored to acknowledge that pride through military photos of family and strangers whom we are as proud of as if they were family.
"I look forward to a great future for America - a future in which our country will match its military strength with our moral restraint, its wealth with our wisdom, its power with our purpose."

5/23/2011 - WASHINGTON (AFNS):The ultimate guarantee against success of aggressors, dictators and terrorists in the 21st century is the size, strength and global reach of the United States military. Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates
We are pleased to present military photos of the Great Lakes Navy Graduation of our grandson. We are so proud of his service.
He has recently begun training for a career in Chemistry after serving in the Navy for over 6 years as a Corpsman (Navy medic). He was embedded with the Marines for most of that time and his last assignment was to a Navy Hospital.

Military photos and video of the USS Russell
with beautiful lyrics to "Thank You" by Scott Thomas & Brad Avery are a poignant tribute to the US Navy.
"Don't you ever forget I'm praying for you. I want to thank you because I'm free."

"Don't you ever forget I'm praying for you. I want to thank you because I'm free."
I previewed at least 20 videos before I decided on "Thank You". I found it to include the most artistically presented Navy pictures accompanied by lyrics that touched my soul as I consider the US Military men and women who give up so much to keep us free.
The Navy Hymn Sung by the Sea Chanters chorus of the US Navy Band (above) accompanies a brief history of US sailors through a slide series of historical Navy pictures.
Coast Guard Photos
Torry Keith Gonsalves
If you think the United States Coast Guard (USCG) is the baby brother of the other US Armed Forces, think again. The USCG not only supports the rest of the US Military, but is essential for United States safety and security. Today it operates as part of the Department of Homeland Security, but it lays claim to being the "oldest, seagoing service" with a "birth date" of August 4, 1790.
The (rather slow, but very informative) military photos on this video review the top eleven rescues and arrests of the Coast Guard for 2009.
I hope you had the opportunity to watch the series of videos on the link above. We owe a great debt to the men and women of the United States Coast Guard. They often constitute our first line of defense.
We are proud to be a military family. This grandson is our most recent addition. We honor his service to our great country. I was so glad I was able to attend his graduation and take military photos of him and the other graduates and officers.

Family In The US Military
"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." Edmund Burke
Dad was training as a pilot when he married at 21. He was flying Deputy Lead of the Air Force on a daylight raid when his B17 was shot down over Berlin. He and his crew all parachuted and were captured, but survived until the end of the World War II when they were liberated by Patton. Below is a short history through Air Force pictures dedicated "To all the airmen that gave their lives so that we may live ours....Fly high, USAF!". |
The photo above is a model of Dad's B17, the Buccaneer, which was handmade for him in England during World War II. The Buccaneer was sent stateside for a bond-raising mission, and Dad was issued a shiny, new B17 for what became his final flight.

Like Father - Like Son
Charles R. Phillips Jr.
Although my brother wasn't captured, and he thankfully came home without major damage, he does carry with him shrapnel from the Viet-Cong, and memories of the Mekong Delta in Vietnam.
The video below invites us through a poem bonded to military photos to look at war through a soldier's eyes. "Secrets that we cannot keep are in a soldier's eyes".
It continues to let us know that neither the soldier nor the civilian ever walks alone.
Soldiers Eyes
By SSG M.Lynn McCulley
To look into a soldier's eyes, the window to their soul.
Look out from inside their mind and see horrors never told.
You say we are just killers, it's not that plain you see.C
Take a walk inside my boots and see what I have seen.
Many innocent lives taken and soldiers, they were some.
Giving their life freely to get the mission done.
The last cold stare of death, we see in our buddies eyes.
They fought for all your freedom, this is why we die.
Some wonder why we fight to protect this nation and maybe lose our life.
Ask this question to a soldier, the answers in their eyes.
Always will we be here waiting, the call we won't deny.
We'll always fight for freedom, never asking why.
We'll go away to far off lands , leaving our loved ones behind.
Many times we die alone, several times inside.
Open windows to our soul, see the tears we hide.
Secrets that we cannot keep are in a soldier's eyes.

Generational Military
Michael Phillips
My nephew continued the family military tradition when he enlisted in the US Marines. He was promoted to Corporal and obtained his 'brown belt' just before deployment and is currently stationed in Afghanistan. He is in our prayers.
ALWAYS FAITHFUL - Semper Fi
"Until we can live without war. Until we can live without hate. Until we can live in a world of peace, there will be Marines. Semper Fi."(Quote by: ITZMillerTime30)
Another nephew is currently in the Air Force Reserves after serving a tour of duty that included Iraq.
We are so proud of these young adults who are giving of themselves to defend these United States of America.

Women In The Military
My daughter also enlisted in the United States Military.
Today over 200,000 women are on active duty with the US Armed Forces; women represent 1 out of every 14 enlisted. Another 100,000+ are in the Reserves plus over 72,000 serve the United States in the National Guard. The Womens Memorial lists almost 2 million women veterans. |
Another Father and Son
Tom Goehringer Sr. was called up to active duty during the Cuban Missile Crisis and assigned as a photographer for the U.S.Air Force. He has been a professional photographer throughout most of his life. Tom loves taking and collecting military photos especially planes. A future page anticipates featuring some of that collection. Both of Tom's brothers served in the US Military - one in the Air Force and the other in the Army as well as two of his nephews who were both Air Force. One of them served in Desert Storm. |
We Are A Military Family
Tom's son retired from the Air Force after 22 years of exemplary service to the United States including 2 deployments.
Another son is a fireman-medic who was attached to President Bush during a Presidential visit. There are really no words adequate to express our gratitude and pride in these contemporary heroes without whom our nation and our lives would be left vulnerable and unprotected. |
Freedom Is Not Free
Perhaps the most reproduced of all Military photos, the raising of the flag at Iwo Jima reminds us of the fierceness of combat and the frailty of life. Almost 7000 Americans and 22,000 Japanese died in the battle for the island.
Despite the huge American losses and over 19,000 injuries, the United States won the battle.
The inspiring words of "If I Die Before You Wake" (ABOVE)portrays the courage of combat and patriotic sacrifice woven together with trust in God who has "everything...in His hands". Over 2,000,000 people have watched this inspiring & thought provoking video.
While certainly not every soldier would echo those sentiments, the song is dramatically illustrated with a slide show and provides many unique military photos. It brought again to us the realization of the cost of freedom.
Freedom is measured in blood and sacrifice. We salute both the fallen and the living heroes who sacrifice all to insure our freedom. Thank you for your service.
